Rehabilitation

NDT Bobath

Neuro-developmental therapy (NDT) is therapeutic approach to the assessment and management dysfunction in people with neurological impairments. The ultimate goal of treatment and management is to maximise the persons functional ability. There is an emphasis on therapeutic handling which focuses on making desired movements more possible and while preventing undesired movements. Undesired movements are prevented because they can produce secondary problems which in the long term reduce the functional potential. NDT aims to promote active, efficient, automatic movements during functional activity.

Vojta

Vojta method or reflex locomotion is highly specialized type of physical therapy which was designed primarily to enhance motor development of a child and treat severe neurological diseases like Cerebral palsy. Since then, reflex locomotion has been systematically developed further and has become a broader base of neurophysiologic principles which have acquired wide application in the therapeutic field.

Logopaedics

Logopaedics is aiming at improving speech skills and oral motor abilities such as mouth, swallowing, eating and drinking disorders. Children who cannot talk may learn sign language, or how to use special equipment such as a computer that speaks for them. Speech therapists work “inside the mouth” using popsicle sticks, fingers, whistles, straws and other items to help the child gain control over the muscles of the mouth, tongue and throat.

Sensory Integration

Sensory integration therapy is designed to help kids who have trouble processing sensory information. This therapy uses repetitive exercises to help a child experience touch and other sensations more accurately. Sensory processing disorder impacts several higher functions. Damage in any part of the brain involved in multisensory processing can cause difficulties to adequately process stimuli in a functional way.

Hippotherapy

Hippotherapy is a form of physical, occupational and speech therapy that uses horse movement to develop and enhance neurological and physical functioning by channeling the movement of the horse. Hippotherapy is built on the concept that the individual’s neuromuscular development is enhanced when their body makes adjustments to the gait, tempo, rhythm, repetition and cadence of a horse’s movement. The horse transfers his motion to the rider, the tension of the body increases, the brain remembers the movement and it has a great factor of fun for the children.

Horseback Riding Simulator

Horseback riding simulators are intended to allow people to gain the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding.
Horseback therapy has been used by many types of therapists (i.e.: physical, occupational, and speech therapists) to advance their physical, mental, emotional, and social skills.

Eye Gaze Communication

Eye Gaze - Tobii Dynavox Eye tracking is a technology that puts you in control of your device by using your eyes as you naturally would.
A device or computer equipped with an eye tracker “knows” what a user is looking at. This makes it possible for users to interact with e.g. computers using their eyes... more.

NF-Walker

NF-Walker is a fantastic and dynamic medical device that enables disabled people to stand and walk. The user gets a unique opportunity to explore their surroundings while keeping both hands free.
The NF-Walker is individually adapted to the user to provide the necessary support and correction in an upright weightbearing position. The NF-Walker is suitable for disabled people with diagnoses such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, traumatic injuries, syndromes, etc... more.

Moto-Med

The MOTO-med movement trainer moves your legs or arms gently. You can select either passive, motor-assisted or active resistive training, with your own muscle strength. The movements are smoothly controlled, similar to bicycling. Depending on the model, you can train from the comfort of a chair, from your wheelchair or even in supine position from the bed... more.

Standing Trainer

Standing trainers support health by stimulating the cardiovascular system, activating muscles and promoting blood circulation. The standing trainer, Heidelberger Liegebär Lasse is a head-to-toe adjustable back support board, size Mini for very small children from 65 cm tall and infinitely variable incline adjustment from 0° to 90° for straightening.

Vibration Therapy

The principle of Galileo, the whole-body vibration therapy is based on the natural movement of human gait. Galileo's side-alternating motion is similar to a seesaw movement with variable amplitude and frequency, and therefore stimulates a movement pattern similar to human gait. The rapid movement of the training platform causes a tilting movement of the pelvis, just like when walking, but much more frequently. To compensate, the body responds with rhythmic muscle contractions, alternating between the left and right side of the body... more

Crawl Trainer

Crawl Trainer is designed to train the crosswise crawl movement in a comfortable and effectiv way. Crawling trains motor skills and muscles, activates the sense of touch and creativity. The brain hemispheres are connected, which promotes cognitive skills.

Crawl Support

This crawling trainer supports and helps children to learn to crawl.

Wingbo

Wingbo swing is an entirely novel swing: it is the first swing worldwide in which babies and infants are able to rock themselves lying on their stomach. The wingbo frame is ideal for babies to pull themselves up and shift their weight: a precondition to learn to walk.

Swinging

Swinging is not only great fun, but also provides relaxation, promotes motor development, strengthens the sense of balance and body awareness and contributes to mental development.

Positioning system: P-Pod

The Specialised Orthotic Services P Pod has been designed for users with specialised seating needs. The 'P' in P Pod stands for postural, and postural support technology is an integral part of its design. It is suitable for a range of ages, from infants to young adults and gives users the chance to spend time out of their wheelchair and relax at home and outside.

Positioning system: Bouncer

Highly recommended by the MCT8 community: the BabyBjörn bouncer. The boys generally love it very much and enjoy it, and it is very easy to use and care for

The MCT8 Research Foundation is committed to fighting the rare disease - Allan Herndon Dudley Syndrome (AHDS).
